Only a 15-minute car ride away from the vibrant city of Lagos lies the calm town of Luz. Everything is within walking distance, which contributes to the peaceful vibe of the town. Or maybe the sandy beaches and live music accompanied by the sounds of the waves are what charms you.

ZaZu Beach Club – Cocktails, wines, food… all served with the splendid backdrop that is the Atlantic Ocean.
The Studio – A coffee shop that not only pours their heart and soul into every cup, they also roast their own coffee!
Kinoah Luz – A restaurant meets pool party concept, serving you festive cocktails, vegetarian brunch and lunch options but also all you can eat grill. You can easily spend the whole day here, from breakfast ‘till dinner, with a quick splash in the pool in between.
Fortaleza – From farm to table, that’s a guarantee at Fortaleza. All produce come from their own farm, just a few kilometres from the restaurant. Tip: Every Sunday, Fortaleza holds a 4 course Jazz Lunch, a feature of Sundays in Luz for the last 30 years, and usually booked up in advance.

YOUR TIME IN LUZ

Even tough Luz is more tranquil than Lagos, there’s still plenty to do. Whether you are a history enthusiast, nature lover or sport aficionado: a wide range of activities awaits you. Here are some tips:

Step back in time with a visit to the ancient Roman baths, offering you a glimpse into the historical depth of the area.
Hiking: hike along the picturesque coast between Luz and Burgau, an easy walk of 5 kilometres with spectacular views.
Luz is a true water sports’ paradise: surfers can catch challenging waves at Rocha Negra, while snorkelers can admire underwater life at the west side of Praia da Luz. If you’re lucky, you may be able to spot some octopi!
Titan Fitness Algarve: with 530 square metres of outdoors sports facilities, this is the largest fitness camp in the region. Train on your own or join a class, while expert trainers and coaches help you keep motivated.

DAILY LIFE IN LUZ

Despite its small size, the town has an international ambiance and is fully equipped with all necessary amenities.

Schools

Various (international) schools are nearby. The education quality in Portugal is acclaimed, so sending your children to finish their school here is helping them make the most of their future.

Healthcare

Locally, there’s a multidisciplinary healthcare centre (LuzDoc) with general practitioners, dermatologists, diabetic consultants, orthopaedics, paediatrics and even emergency advice. Also available in LuzDoc: complementary therapies such as acupuncture, nutritional sciences, physiotherapy and podiatry.

The healthcare system in Luz is comparable to the NHS in the UK, with free basic healthcare for residents. If you take out extra insurance, you get access to a wider range of specialists and private hospitals.

Supermarkets

Praia da Luz has three small shopping markets, which cater to the majority of your shopping needs. Spar and Baptista even deliver your groceries to your doorstep.
