Portimão’s restaurant and nightlife scene is as vibrant and diverse as the city itself. The city is home to numerous bars and clubs, ranging from energetic electronic music to more laid-back live bands.

 

  • Club Nau Beach Club & Restaurant – A gorgeous boho-styled venue with gorgeous views of the Arade River and the marina. Be sure to swing by on Fridays, when there’s live music.
  • Vista – An upscale, fine dining restaurant by chef João Oliveira, who was awarded the ‘Chef de L’Avenir’-award by the International Academy of Gastronomy in 2019 and since then received a Michelin star and a Golden Fork award for Vista.
  • NoSoloÁgua Portimão – An elegant place, right by the sea, with a luxurious atmosphere. Have some delicious sushi between glasses of Champagne and a dip in the beach or pool, or stay for the epic parties in the evening.

Healthcare

Portimão has its own (private) hospital, run by the esteemed HPA Saúde Group; which is a benchmark private hospital group in terms of healthcare in the Algarve. The hospital offers round-the-clock emergency services and private ambulances. 

Also in Portimão: a public ‘centro de saúde’, an esthetical clinic, a neuropsychologist, dentist with dental clinic…

Education

Portimão has various smaller schools, but most expats choose to enrol their children in the Nobel International School Algarve, which is one of the most renowned schools in Portimão. It offers a British curriculum for students from ages 3 to 18, and is known for its excellent academic standards.

Vale Verde International School is located in Lagos, and is also a popular choice for families in the Portimão area, offering a British curriculum as well.
